Depending on how close you wish to stay to either Goodison or city centre, some recommend Hotel Anfield or Epstein House for sheer proximity, whereas others prefer your standard generic hotel chain for taking in the sights of the city after the match. The most popular way of travelling to the ground is via an overground train service from the city centre. Named after Evertons most successful team, The 85 Lounge will see you enjoy a four course meal and a cash bar as well as an opportunity to meet the Man Of The Match. The stadium got quickly developed in the early 20th century, first with the construction of a double-decker stand at the Park End in 1907, and next with the large Goodison Road Stand in 1909. You can get a bus from their to Liverpool South Parkway bus/rail interchange and from there get either a bus towards the ground or the train to Sandhills before meeting up with the Soccerbus. The largest railway station in Liverpool is Lime Street which is slightly too far for a pleasant walk to the stadium, but thats not a problem as there are two train lines which take you pretty close to Goodison Park. Apart from the modern Park Stand (which has an electric scoreboard on its roof and was opened in 1994), the rest of the ground looks tired. A dispute over rent with the grounds owner led to them moving to their own purpose built stadium, however, and it became known as Goodison Park because of its location near Goodison Road. On the whole it is a fairly straightforward walk and there are plenty of other fans to follow if you are unsure of the way. Much like with all of the leagues top teams, Everton have a club shop. Houldings way of fixing the problem was to propose a limited company with club float allowing the club to buy Houlding and Orrells land outright, hoping to raise 12,000. Although Everton havent won a trophy for over 25 years, they remain one of the best supported clubs in England and have an incredible history.
